Lot Essay

The charcoal drawing of Paul Roche was executed circa 1946/7 and the drawing of Le Bas' house in Marbella was executed in 1964.

The costume design was executed in 1923-1924 as a design for Aristophanes' The Birds which was performed by a mixed cast of academics and students in Cambridge in 1924. The part of the Prophet was played by Dr F. H. McBride of King's College and the sheet shows the costume-maker's annotations.
