Purchased directly from the artist by Colonel Victor Hill in the late 1960s and bequeathed to the present owner by Colonel Hill in 1986.

Lot Essay

The present work depicts John 20:17 - the Risen Christ appears to Mary Magdalene after the Resurrection.
Colonel Victor Hill donated the life-size sculpture of the present work to Magdalen College, Oxford, where it stands in the chapel.
