With a portor marble top above three frieze drawers and a pierced strapwork apron, the back panels with applied crescent moons, stars and brass calligraphy, with taperings legs on plinth base, stencilled to back 'EA3467GB' and with pencil inscription in centre drawer '...Marienburg...'

Lot Essay

The inscription translates as 'And there is no conqueror except of Allah/God', a phrase frequently used by the Nasrids, who ruled Granada between 1232 and 1492, and whose legacy includes most notably the Alhambra palace.
