The writing-table is designed in the British New Palace of Westminster fashion promoted by the architect A.W.N. Pugin (d.1852), author of Gothic Furniture in the Style of the 15th Century, 1835. Amongst closely related furniture are tables associated with the firm of J. G. Crace and Sons, who worked closely with Pugin from the late 1840s and collaborated with him over the 1851 Great Exhibitions Medieval Court.
