Lot Essay

A pattern for a black-figured rosewood sofa-table, with this form of Grecian plinth-based and truss-supported trestles and over-hanging top instead of hinged candle-flaps, featured in R. Ackermanns 1824 Repository of Arts.

A similar table, likewise embellished with libation-paterae, was sold Christies King Street 21 June 1990, lot 129; while another bearing, the 1820s brand of William Riddle of Nottingham Place, London , was sold Christies King Street 20 October 1988 lot 119.
