signed with initials, inscribed and dated 'JD 1814/The Widow of Edward Surtees Esqr. Nephew of/Lord Chancellor Eldon/she was Miss Farrand of St. Ives near Bradford/I also drew her little Boy.' (on a fragment of the old backing sheet, attached to the backboard)
