The rectangular plate in a pierced foliate and C-scroll surround, with a concave moulded pediment hung with lambrequins, the sides with swags of flowers and fruit, the plate a 19th century replacement

The Hon. Mrs. Aileen Plunket, Luttrellstown Castle, Clonsilla, Co. Dublin, sold Christie's house sale, 26-28 September 1983, lot 219, where bought by the present owner.

Lot Essay

The romantic Gothic castle at Luttrellstown is one of the finest demesnes in Ireland. The house and estate were bought by Ernest Guinness for his daughter Aileen Plunket, who from the 1950s, along with the inspired decorating skills of Felix Harbord, transformed its interiors.
