With their distinctive masks at the joint of the stem and the branches, these candelabra relate to the vases made by the celebrated St. Petersburg bronzier Friedrich Bergenfeldt (1768-1822), whose stamped pieces have enabled further firm attributions. The latter include a pair of vases supplied by him for the Hermitage in 1802, which are illustrated in I. Sychev, Russian Bronze, Moscow, 2003, p. 96.
