Each modelled with an Egyptian heron figure supporting a central torch with a vase-shaped nozzle and issuing from grotesque masks scrolling branches, the circular stepped socle above a square plinth

With their distinctive masks at the joint of the stem and the branches, these candelabra relate to the vases made by the celebrated St. Petersburg bronzier Friedrich Bergenfeldt (1768-1822), whose stamped pieces have enabled further firm attributions. The latter include a pair of vases supplied by him for the Hermitage in 1802, which are illustrated in I. Sychev, Russian Bronze, Moscow, 2003, p. 96.
