A terracotta stele of Jambhala
Nepal, dated NS 715 (1594-1595 AD)
Seated on the back of a lion with his left hand wielding a mongoose spewing jewels and his left holding the stem of his folded parasol, clad in finely detailed armor with foliate breastplates and a shawl draped over his shoulders, his face in concentrated expression with a furrowed brow surmounted by a large foliate headdress, the lion below him with a snarling mouth, long braided mane and a raised tail, all backed by a flaming aureola, with remains of polychromy overall and an inscription giving the date at verso
