A large gilt bronze figure of Buddha Shakyamuni
Tibet, 17th century
Seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus base, with right hand in bhumisparsamudra and the left hand in dhyanamudra, wearing a tightly clad sanghati with beaded borders and incised floral bands, his contemplative face with arched raised brows, turquoise inlaid urna, heavy-lidded eyes, aquiline nose and lips in a gentle smile framed by pierced pendulous earlobes, the hair arranged in tight curls rising to a domed ushnisha with a flame cintamani, richly gilt overall, the base sealed
