A RANGE OF BORDEAUX FROM THE EXCELLENT 1996 VINTAGE
1996 ** to ****
Though upstaged by the attractive '95's, this vintage is better than it was first made out to be, and improves greatly on acquaintance. Indeed, after looking through my notes, I think it is a seriously underrated vintage...The late-picked Cabernets were of high quality resulting in rich, fairly concentrated wines. The vintage is worth watching. M.B.

Tasting note: very deep and intense; very fragrant, crisp fruit, whiff of mocha and chocolate; sweet, fleshy; touch of liquorice and black pepper, delicious flavour, leathery tannins. Last tasted Sept 2005 (*****) 2012-2030. M.B.
