Black Raku ware, Edo period (17th-18th century) by 5th-generation Raku master Sonyu (1664-1716)
Hand-modelled, cylindrical on a compressed disc foot, applied with a flecked matte black glaze
3 3/8in. (8.6cm.) high; 4 3/8in. (11.3cm.) diameter
With old wood box dated (mizunoto-mi), giving name and signed with kao (cursive monogram), outer box authenticated, signed by Raku Kichizaemon XV (b. 1949), dated 1977
