Hand-modelled, circular with irregular edge on high circular foot, covered by a thick and glossy black glaze

Original wood box signed and inscribed by the artist Idogata kurojawan Tannyu zo (Ido-shape black tea bowl by Tannyu) and sealed Raku, outer wood box authenticated, giving name and signed by Sen Soshitsu XV (Hounsai; b. 1923)
