Lot Essay

The present lot is part of a table garniture commissioned in Berlin in about 1940. The modeller, Paul Scheurich, one of the most important of the period, chose the theme Geburt der Schönheit, The Birth of Beauty. The central piece was a group depicting Venus Anadyomene surrounded by groups of Nereids, Tritons and sea creatures. The table garniture was never completed.
