A WHITE AND BROWN JADE SCHOLAR'S WATER VESSEL
LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH-17TH CENTURY
Carved in the shape of a large lychee borne on a leafy gnarled branch that forms an openwork handle and continues under the base and around the sides where it bears further small fruit carved with diaper patterns, with a chilong crawling up onto the rim on one side and another smaller chilong carved from the brown area of the stone resting atop the rim opposite, with some areas of opaque pinkish color in the stone
