Perfumers and censers of this type carved with flowers and foliate decoration, with both the bowl and cover pierced, were popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. Compare the green jade perfumer in the Qing Court Collection, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 42 - Jadeware (III), Hong Kong, 1995, p. 51, no. 40, and the white jade example with similar carving, but with openwork handles, illustrated p. 53, no. 42.
