A SOAPSTONE-EMBELLISHED SILVER WIRE-INLAID ZITAN RUYI SCEPTER
18TH/19TH CENTURY
The head inlaid with a quadrilobed soapstone plaque of ivory color carved in relief with a squirrel climbing amidst a fruiting grapevine, with two further soapstone plaques carved with grapevine on the shaped handle which is inlaid in fine silver wire with a lengthy inscription within a rectangular panel, a yu zhi mark within a smaller panel and archaistic scrolls, with silver wire borders on the reverse

Acquired circa 1960s-1974, and thence by descent within the family.
