Three bronze table bells
By Johan van den Eynde, called Johan a Fine, mid 16th century
The first inscribed LOF GODT VAN AL and JOHANNES AFINE Ao MDXLVII ME FECIT; the second inscribed LOF GODT VAN AL and ME FECIT JOHANNES AFINE Ao 1548 the body cast with cherubs, the handle possibly replaced; the third inscribed ME FECIT JOHANNES AFINE Ao 1549 the body crisply cast with grotesque motifs, monkies, an eagle and a rabbit

Lot Essay

The first of these three bells is similar in design to another by Johan van den Eynde, in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Cf O. ter Kuile, Koper en Brons, the Hague, 1986, p. 236, no. 327.
