Lot Essay

The armchairs originally belonging to the present lot were acquired by the Groninger Museum directly from the family in 1996. A family portrait of Hendrik Louis Wijchgel van Lellens (1757-1830) and his wife Hermanna van Gesseler dating from 1796 show these armchairs in situ.
