Lot Essay

Victor de Haen was among the main contributors who decorated the Belgian Stock Exchange La Bourse. They started around 1871 and finished at the end of 1873. The main façade of the Palais de la Bourse (Stock Exchange building) consists of a peristyle. Under the peristyle are three doors which give access to the building. Above the middle door surrounding the clock, two winged figures represent Good and Evil, created by the sculptor De Haen.
