The baluster stem decorated in high relief with foliate scrolls, on conforming shaped circular base, the foliate branches each supporting campana-shaped glass shades and centred by a detachable glass spire, the base engraved with the insignia of the 7th Madras Cavalry

Lot Essay

The 7th Madras Cavalry was part of the army led by Major General Arthur Wellesley (1869-1852), the future Duke of Wellington, which defeated the Mahratta army in the Battle of Assaye in 1803.
