It was not unusual for tombs outside Dehli to be used as residences. Sir Thomas Metcalfe's (1795-1853) retreat during the rainy season was built on the first floor of the tomb of Mohammed Quli Khan.

According to a note attached to the backboard, the artist spent most of her life in India.
