Lot Essay

The present owner's father was Sir Jack Lyons. Lyons assisted in funding the memorial exhibition of the works of Sir Jacob Epstein at the Edinburgh Festival of 1961 after being approached by Lord Harewood, the Festival director. When the exhibition closed Lyons purchased some of the works (see lot 51).
