Lot Essay

The author of this text, also known as 'Ala al-Munajjim al-Bukhari, was born in Khawarizm and worked in Bukhara as an astronomer. He wrote this commentary of the Zij-e Ilkhani for the Vizier Muhammad bin Sayf al-Din Ahmad bin Mubarakshah Tabrizi. Nasir al-Din Tusi's Zij al-Ilkhani was completed circa 1272 and this manuscript is therefore an early copy of 'Ala al-Munajjim al-Bukhari's commentary. See B.A. Rosenfeld and E. Ihsanoglu, Mathematicians, Astronomers and other Scholars of Islamic Civilisation and their Works (7-19th century), Istanbul, 2003, no. 687, p. 239.
