Persian manuscript on paper, 16ff., fifteen calligraphic panels in either nasta'liq, shikasteh or thuluth, one folio with illuminated shamsa, each laid down on coloured card, one folio with a small drawing of a meandering dragon in foliage, the panels on coloured, marbled, gold or silver-speckled paper, some with later painted birds, most of the panels signed, concertina bound, the lacquer boards with a dragon facing a phoenix, some staining
Largest text panel 9½ x 5½in. (24.2 x 14.2cm.); folio 13 7/8 x 8 5/8 (35.2 x 21.8cm.)

Lot Essay

The names of the calligraphy include those of: 'Imad al-Hassani (2 panels), 'Ala al-Din (?) Faridun, Muhammad Husayn, 'Abdullah Mishkin Qalam, 'Abd al-Rahim al-Harawi, 'Ali (2), 'Ali bin Muhammad 'Ali, Kamal bin 'Abd al-Haqq al-Sabzwari, the last panel signed AH 940/1533 AD. A number of these however are later additions.
