AN IZNIK POTTERY DISH
OTTOMAN TURKEY, CIRCA 1585
With sloping rim on short foot, the white interior painted under the glaze in green, cobalt-blue, bole-red and black with a symmetric design of meandering floral spray including four large carnations and two smaller hyacinths which come together with a red cloudband at the centre of the bowl, above this a small cloudband issuing two blue saz leaves which curl around the other flowers, stylised wave and rock border, the exterior with alternating blue flowerheads and floral sprays, fritting to rim and foot, slight chipping to foot
12 3/8in. (31.5cm.) diam.
