These candelabra relate to those executed after the model by Claude Michel, dit Clodion by the bronzier Louis-Felix de Larue circa 1780, diplayed in the State Rooms at the Residenz, Munich. (H. Ottomeyer/P. Pröschel et.al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol.1, p.210, no XXVIII)
The sale of the Aubert Collection in Paris, March 2, 1786, records a similar pair:
180 - Deuz figures d'enfants, l'une un satyr, par M. Clodion; l'autre une patite fille, par La Rue. Ils sont de couleur antique et portent chacun daux branches de cuivre doré garnies de leur bobèches formant guirlandes. Les deux agréables morceaux sont d'une belle éxécution et garnies de gorges, bandeaux unis et fils de perles et cuivre parfaitement doré
André-Antoine Ravrio also executed very similar cherub figures on a pair of related candelabra in the Residenz in Munich, which are illustrated in H. Ottomeyer P.Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. I, p. 325, fig. 5.1.5.
