Lot Essay

A closely related table with the same carved legs but a shell-centered frieze is illustrated in F.L. Hinckley, Masterpieces of Queen Anne and Georgian Furniture, New York, 1991, p.32, fig 37. A yew wood card table with a lion's mask frieze and acanthus-carved cabriole legs with paw feet formerly in the Samuel Messer Collection is illustrated in the Knight of Glin, J. Peill, Irish Furniture, New Haven, 2007, p.236, fig 130.
