by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg, period of Catherine II, late 1780s-early 1790s
Comprising a covered tea-pot, a covered coffee-pot, a covered milk jug, a covered sugar bowl, a covered tea-caddy and two cups, all of cylindrical form, two circular saucers and a circular tray, the body of each painted with a multi-coloured bouquet of flowers in a circular or oval white ground reserve, framed within two thin gilt bands, one with gilt dents de loup, the yellow ground body with the border of a continuous garland of pink roses and green leaves, marked under bases with dark blue underglaze 'E II' and dot and gold star

This service is one of the earliest pieces made by the Imperial Porcelain Factory to feature a coloured surround. The yellow pigment presented a challenge to masters of colour mixing. Objects with a yellow surround occur rarely, even in museum collections.
