A porcelain tureen from the Yacht Service
by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg, period of Catherine II, 1784-1787
Oval, the deep bowl painted on both sides with a gilt and purple cartouche containing a black Imperial double-headed eagle with a wreath of victory in one claw and a flag depicting crossed anchors in the other, with swags underneath, further decorated with a stylized border design at the rim, with acanthus branch handles at each side and four acanthus leaf scroll feet, with gilt detail, marked with blue underglaze 'E II'
