KOKOSHNIK WITH STYLIZED BIRD
Possibly Tverskaia province, Russia, late 18th - early 19th century
Circular, of traditional curved form, with an extended rear flap, embroidered with metal thread and embellished with glass beads, pearls and metal sequins, forming a stylized branch and vine pattern with two stylized birds on the front panel, facing toward the centre, decorated in seed pearls and purple glass beads, rim of hat decorated with a mother-of-pearl border, lined with red and white striped cotton
