Central provinces, Russia, late 18th century
Of vertical crescent shape, the 'wings' of the hat extending out to the sides beyond the support structure of the cap in a half-moon shape, the red velvet ground embroidered with gilt thread, gilt metallic braid, and gold foil and green and red metal thread embellishments, forming a lotus and vine motif, lined with red, white and printed cotton
