A PORCELAIN CUP AND SAUCER
by the Sipiagin Porcelain Factory, circa 1820-1850
The cylindrical cup painted with the seated muse Euterpe in a rocky landscape, within a reserve, with a gilt border against a brown background decorated with two musical trophies painted en grisaille depicting a laurel branch, a trumpet, and a sheet of music, gilt interior and scroll foliate handle similarly decorated with raised border, saucer with musical emblem, gilt border, the saucer marked with blue underglaze 'S', incised 'I' and painted in gilt overglaze 'Euterpe', the cup incised with 'S' and another scrolled character
the cup: 2 3/8 in. (6.1 cm.) high
