A gilt bonbonniere with a medallion of Catherine II
the cover with indistinct town mark, the base with unrecorded mark FS in a wreath and circular punch, the medallion indistinctly signed and dated 1774
Circular, the medallion set in detachable the cover and base, the cover depicting a profile of Catherine the Great, the base with a personification of the victorious Russia, her fleet ranged behind in the Black Sea, with a trophy of arms to her left, both medallions with Russian inscriptions, within reeded and beaded borders and sides, marked inside cover, the base FS within a wreath, with later Fench control marks on the flange
3 3/8 in. (8.7 cm.) diameter
The Russian description on the base of bonbonniere reads: 'With strength, wisdom and power/Peace with the Ottoman Porte/concluded on 10 July/1774'.
