One side struck with the high relief bust of Emperor Nicholas I in the uniform of the Chevalier Life-Guard regiment, facing left, with Russian inscription 'Nicholas I Emperor and Autocrat of All Russias, born 25 June 1796/died 18 February 1855', the reverse depicting the equestrian monument to Nicholas I, designed by Auguste de Montferrand, with Russian inscription 'On the order of Alexander II the Autocrat of all Russia', dated 1859 and inscribed in Cyrillic 'P. BRUSNITSIN' beneath the bust and the monument
