Black ink on ricepaper, a verse from the kitab al Tawhid in the form of an oval, with the Chinese translation written vertically either side, the artist's signature and deals to left and right in red, with pale green textile border - 46 1/2 x 24 5/8in (118.3 x 62.5cm)

Lot Essay

'Abd al-Hakim (Liu Jingyi) was trained in Chinese calligraphy by Guo Zhen Duo and by Cao Jin Zao in Arabic calligraphy. See Francois Aubin, L'Art de l'ecriture chez les musulmans de Chine," Horizons maghrebins, vol 12 (1999), pp. 29-43.
