This piece appears to be composed of panels from an Honorific robe of the kind presented to ambassadors and noblemen at the Ottoman Court. The silks are woven to give maximum display when presented. They were then exchanged for silver and gold at the palace door.

This silk is of higher quality than average and woven with a very dramatic pattern.
