Lot Essay

Founded in Milan in 1959, the avant-garde artistic collective 'Gruppo T' was represented by Colombo, Varisco, and De Vecchi, together with David Boriani and Anceschi Giovanni, and aimed to encourage the development of artistically interactive utensils, environments and experiences. Considered amongst the forerunners of kinetic art, the group provided a foundation for the avant-garde lighting developed later that same decade by Gianni's brother, Joe Colombo, Ugo La Pietra, and the experimental designers represented by the progressive lighting company, New Lamp.
