Engraved additional title and 80 engraved plates, comprising views, plans and maps, some folding. (Worm track in the margins of some leaves and in a very few plates, 4 plates with the borders trimmed by the binder's knife.) Contemporary sheep, spine gilt, edges sprinkled red (rubbed and scuffed with a little surface loss). Provenance: Julius Erhard Karl Hoerle, Frankfurt (title signature).
The third German edition of Merian's important topographical work. First published in 1642 and supplemented by his son Caspar in 1653, the Topographia Helvetiae formed the first part of an extensive general topography of Germany.
