The third German edition of Merian's important topographical work. First published in 1642 and supplemented by his son Caspar in 1653, the Topographia Helvetiae formed the first part of an extensive general topography of Germany. It proved to be a sound commercial success, encouraging Merian to continue publishing successive parts. Brunet 1529; Graesse VII 509; Wüthrich IV, 6.
