The arms are those of Craven, presumably for William, 2nd Earl of Craven (1809-1866).
The inset plaque depicts Venus and Adonis, as in the illustrated painting. The practice of setting 17th or 18th century plaques in ornamental mounts was common in the 19th century, and especially artfully done by silversmiths Edward Farrell, William Elliot and Paul Storr.
Elliot mounted several plaques into the covers of caskets, including one, dated 1820, sold Partridge: A Selection of English and French Furniture, Old Master Paintings, Silver, Porcelain and Carpets, Christie's, New York, 17 May 2006, lot 98. Farrell mounted two early dishes in decorative borders dated 1830 and 1820-1830, which were offered in the sale of silver from Wentworth, Christie's, London, 15 July 1998, lots 157 and 158.
