Lot Essay

This meticulous painting by Elias Zayat was a special commission by a collector, and encompasses all the elements of the old city of Damascus which inspired the artist. Special attention is paid to the more poetic aspects of the city which, with its landmarks, temples, and minarets and multitude of anecdotal detail, forms a kaleidoscopic view of the Syrian capital.
