A pair of iron stirrups with groups of Nanban (Portuguese) and stylized fruiting grape-vines in gold and silver ito-zogan

Such broad-platformed stirrups were devised in the Heian period to provide a stable foundation for the mounted archer to loose his arrows, and remained in use until the end of the Edo period.
