The armor is in the style of the Sendai daimyo, Date Masamune (1567-1636), a style adopted by his retainers. This suit is said to have been owned by the Ishimoda family.

The thirty-two-plate black-lacquered helmet bowl signed Myochin Sadashige saku, with a five-tiered hineno-type shikoro (neck guard) of lacquered-iron itazane with jusanyo mon in gold lacquer on the fukigaeshi, gilt wood maedate (forecrest) of a crescent moon, menpo (faceguard) with a moustache and four-tiered yodarekake (throat protector), six-tiered itazane sode (shoulder guards of six lacquered iron sheets), shino-gote (sleeves with iron splints), iron gomai-do (five-piece cuirass) with gold- lacquered depiction of clouds and shishi among peonies with a gold-lacquered leather pouch attached, seven-tasseted itazane kusazuri, iyozane-style haidate (thigh protector), shino sune-ate (leg guards with splints), all iron components lacquered and laced with blue sugake-odoshi (double lacing at intervals), the fukigaeshi, gyoyo, and tekko also with gold-lacquered jusanyo mon
