A YOKOHAGI NIMAI DO ARMOR WITH VARIEGATED LACING
EDO PERIOD (18TH CENTURY)
The armor comprising a black-lacquered sixty-two-plate suji-bachi helmet, shikoro of four brown-lacquered leather-covered itazane (solid sheets), small fukigaeshi with crests, shallow black-lacquered brim, with added iron maedate (forecrest) of a grimacing horned demon, brown-lacquered leather-covered menpo with bushy moustache, two-tiered yodarekake (throat-piece), the yokohagi do (cuirass composed of horizontal plates riveted together) with two loose muna-ita linked with blue lacing, chu-sode, kusazuri, sode, shikoro (neckguard) and throat-piece all with red, white, and blue lacings in omodaka-odoshi (water plantain) style of triangular patterns, the tsutsugote-type sleeves with the same lacquered leather, with gold lacquered tekko (hand covers) and gold-lacquered strips on the upper arm, the haidate with gold-lacquered vertical shino stripes on the upper portion, and gold-lacquered square pieces on the lower portion, brown-lacquered leather-covered tsutsu suneate (leg guards)
