Lot Essay

The Miike school of Chikugo province, part of present-day Fukuoka prefecture, is believed to have been established by Tenta Mitsuyo in the late Heian period, and to have continued to the Muromachi period. They are thought also to have spread to Aki and Hizen, but the extent of the school is uncertain owing to the lack of signed work.
