WINES FROM PROVENCE, LANGUEDOC AND SOUTH-WESTERN FRANCE

Moving down to the Mediterenean, the main focus is on four outstanding southern French producers: Domaine de Trevallon, Domaine Tempier, Domaine Gauby and Château Montus. Created in 1973 by Eloi Dürrbach, Trevallon eschewed the traditional local varietals of Mourvèdre and Grenache and now the backbone of the blend is Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Domaine Tempier is one of the leading estates in Bandol, the La Migoua and La Tourtine cuvées are from single vineyard sites while Cabassaou comes from a one hectare plot of Mourvèdre from the steeper, lower part of the Tourtine vineyard.
Domaine Gauby is now established as a top producer in Languedoc with Muntada as its flagship wine while Château Montus's La Tyre hails from a 10 hectare vineyard with large stones discovered by Alain Brumont in 1990 to be ideal for the production of Tannat. 2000 was its first vintage
