Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with applied steel Breguet numerals in 1950 and its subsequent sale on 8 December 1950. Furthermore delivered with the contemporary brown presentation box stamped Patek, Philippe & Co., Genève and Guillermin, 20, Place Vendome, Paris.

Fresh to the market, the present watch is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful examples of a reference 565 in stainless steel ever to appear in public to date, preserved in literally new condition and with the much sought after Breguet numerals, confirmed by the Extract from the Archives. It is understood that this watch was hardly ever worn and has consequently had the minimum number of services and polishes necessary since the day of its purchase nearly 60 years ago. This lack of exposure results today in an incredibly crisp case, hardly ever seen on any vintage watch. The satin finish of the surface, also of the crown, is close to immaculate and most impressively, all the original angled case proportions have survived to their best extent. The charismatic dial does not show any signs of cosmetic enhancement and rounds up the overall appeal of this rare timepiece.

Researches have revealed that until to date, only six examples of reference 565 in stainless steel with Breguet numerals have appeared in public.

The timelessly modern design of reference 565 served as inspiration for the creation of the 2006 stainless steel inaugural reference 5565.
