A GLAZED POTTERY GUARDIAN ROOF TILE, MING DYNASTY, 15TH/17TH CENTURY
the guardian figure standing on a semi-cylindrical roof tile in a defensive stance, his legs open over a cloud scroll, his shoulder and head turned towards his right side, his wrists clasped to his chest, all covered with a turquoise and dark blue glaze -- 14¼in. (36.2cm.) high.
