The navette-shaped ring containing a white paste cameo portrait of a member of the British Royal Family, thought to be Frederick, Prince of Wales (1707-1751), in profile to the left, long powdered wig, wearing the breast-star and sash of the Order of the Garter, frilled cravat on a pink foiled ground to the glazed cover and gold mount with engraved shoulders, cameo signed Brown on truncation, mount circa 1790
Charles Brown (1749-1795) and his brother William (1748-1825) were English gem-engravers, who worked for Catherine the Great and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. Their works were often reproduced in paste
