The Times of 11 July 1939 recorded the presentation of the tray. Present was the High Commissioner of Australia and Admiral Sir William James. The ship had been launched in 1934 by the Marchioness of Titchfield. She was purchased by the Australian government and commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy as H.M.A.S. Perth at Portsmouth on 29 June 1939. She took part in a number of actions during World War II until she was torpedoed by the Japanese as the Battle of Sunda Strait in 1942.
